LRS - Attorneys
Share |

The ECBA Lawyer Referral Service program is once again accepting applications.  Each year the Bar Association receives hundreds of calls, emails and walk-in requests from individuals seeking legal advice and representation.  These potential clients present our ECBA members with the unique opportunity to build a new practice or diversify an existing one while also providing a valuable community service.

How does our referral service work?  Our LRS Staff refers potential clients to an attorney on the particular panel based on the area of law and the geographic location of the potential client and the attorney.  Panel members’ names are rotated continuously to ensure all attorneys receive referrals.

If a LRS referral results in an attorney’s retention and the legal fees received exceed $750.00, 10% of those fees, exclusive of costs and disbursements, will be remitted to the Referral Service. Several types of cases are exempt from the reimbursement of fees to the ECBA LRS: Domestic Violence, Foreclosures, Landlord/Tenant (Tenant only), Personal Bankruptcy (Chapter 7 and 13), and Small Claims Actions.

Attorney members may register for up to six (6) ECBA LRS panels.  The low annual registration fees for the ECBA LRS are as follows:

$100 for registration on two (2) LRS panels

$175 for registration on four (4) LRS panels, and

$250 for registration on six (6) LRS panels.

While our Lawyer Referral Service is robust, a targeted strategic marketing plan is being developed to further increase awareness of the Service throughout Essex County and surrounding communities, thereby increasing the volume and quality of the inquiries it receives.

In order to be eligible for participation as an LRS Panel member, you must be a current member of the ECBA able to provide a Certificate of Malpractice Insurance coverage. The complete Rules and Regulations governing the ECBA LRS program are available here.

The 2020-2021 ECBA LRS panels have already begun! Do not miss out on this promising business opportunity. Should you have any questions or need further information, please contact our ECBA LRS Administrator Kathy Ofray at 973-622-6207 ext. 10 or by email to

We look forward to your participation in our service.
