Seminars       Happy Hours
YLS puts on approximately 5 - 10 seminars per year which are designed to introduce young lawyers to specific areas such as federal and municipal court practice. They are also designed to teach young lawyers how to handle personal finances, tax issues, ethics pitfalls and basic survival skills both in and out of the courthouse.   The YLS meets monthly at a bar/restaurant in Essex County. All young lawyers are welcome and ECBA Officers and Trustees are invited to attend. The events provide a forum for new attorneys to meet and network and often times new programs are developed to either enhance professional development or give back to the community.

Our Schedule of CLE programs which meet the requirements for newly admitted attorneys will be available August 1st

In light of the current restrictions in place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, our regular networking and CLE events temporarily on hold.
Check back here regularly for updated information on our events and programs.

Our Young Lawyers Working With Essex County's Young People

YLS cosponsors numerous events for students and the public throughout the year as well. Each January and February the YLS hosts a local Vincent J. Apruzzese Mock Trial Program for Students in Essex County in cooperation with the New Jersey State Bar Foundation. For information on this years program, visit

In celebration of Law Day -- generally observed on May 1 each year -- the Young Lawyers Section works hand in hand with the administration of the Essex Vicinage courts to host a day of Courts in the Community. With the support of the NJSBF, the Essex Vicinage court administration and the YLS take the courts to school by setting up teams of currently sitting judges, their law clerks, Sheriff's officers, and volunteer attorneys who visit local schools to present a mock trial with the students participating as lawyers, witnesses, and jurors. The fact pattern is prepared each year by a committee of the courts and the Bar and generally addresses timely issues facing our young people, such as music piracy, bullying and weapons in the schools. There is a companion program that asks the students create original pieces of art and literature related to the annual Law Day theme.
